Arbatel the Magic of the Ancients

Arbatel was written by an Italian mage, however the author and original date that pen was put to paper are unknown. It was a Latin grimoire of renaissance ceremonial magic published in 1575 in Switzerland. The Arbatel mainly focuses on the relationship between humanity, celestial hierarchies, and the positive relationship between the two. The Olympian spirits featured in it are entirely original. The Arbatel was one of the most influential works of its kind from its period, inspiring figures such as Johann Arndt, Gerhard Dorn, Adam Haslmayr, Robert Fludd, Heinrich Khunrath, and Valentin Weigel, in addition to its editor and publisher, Zwinger and Perna. It was possibly the first work to use "Theosophy" in an occult sense (as opposed to a synonym for theology), and for distinguishing between human ("anthroposophia") and divine knowledge ("theosophia").

When it first appeared in 1575, it attracted the attention of people with a surprisingly broad range of agendas, including some of the finest minds of the time. Often quoted and reprinted, both praised and condemned, its impact on western esoteric philosophy has been called “overwhelming.” This little book is mentioned by John Dee in his Mysteriorum Libri. Delrio condemns the book in his Disquisitiones magicae.'

The only known, existing tome (“book” or “volume,” that is) of the Arbatel, is the first, the Isagoge, which the author explains means “Book of the Institutions of Magic” and consists of “the most general precepts of the whole Art.”

The final editing of the book was likely carried out by Theodor Zwinger, and was almost definitely published by Pietro Perna, leaving little doubt to the book's claimed Swiss origin. The author remains unknown, but Peterson believes one Jacques Gohory (1520-1576) to be the most likely possibility. Gohory, like Zwinger and Perna, was a Paracelsian.
In 1617, the University of Marburg took action against two professors who intended to use the grimoire as a textbook, and expelled a student obsessed with it.

Mysterious Sea Creature of Corfu

On October 2015, a Scottish tourist was left in shock after unwittingly capturing the image of a bizarre sea creature in his holiday snaps. Harvey Robertson, 52, was on a boat cruise with his family in Corfu when he took a number of photographs inside a sea cave of what looks like a cross between a crocodile and a hippo.Robertson said, “I was in a sea cave on a small boat about 20 miles south of Albania on the west coast of Greece.

"I was trying to capture the water colour and was not looking at the water, the flash went off.

“I only saw the creature when looking back through my pics.”
Unidentified Sea Creature

He added: "I have no idea what it could have been, I have never seen anything like it.”
He explained, the large creature has a long snout which it poked up through the water while Harvey was boating in a cave. As Harvey held his camera over the side of the boat to take the pictures, the animal came to the surface - but he didn’t even know it was there. He caught the picture by accident.

He’s not the only one - experts have so far been unable to determine exactly what it was that visited Harvey’s boat that day.

Vietnamese Winged Woman Sighting

In a summer 1969, a soldier on guard duty near Da Nang, Vietnam named Earl Morrison, along with several comrades, had the shock of his life. It was, very appropriately, in the dead of night when the menacing event occurred – and as the men were on guard-duty, keeping a careful look out for the Vietcong. Everything was quiet and normal until around 1:30 a.m. That’s when the atmosphere changed, and an eerie form made its presence known to the shocked men of the US 1st Marine Division.saw an illuminous figure approaching slowly in the sky. When it got close, the figure was seen to be a naked woman with bat wings, her skin and the wings completely black, but glowing. The body was covered with the glow. This apparition passed only 6-7 feet above the witness' head and flew away, having been visible from 3-4 minutes. The witness PFC Earl Morrison is the step-nephew of the investigator.

The case was investigated by Don Worley, an experienced student of the unknown, who interviewed the witness in depth. Despite being somewhat reluctant to speak out publicly, Morrison eventually changed his mind and, by 1972, was comfortable about discussing the incident, even if he wasn’t comfortable with what he encountered. His story makes for incredible reading:

“He is a reliable observer,” Worley notes, “and he swears that this event is well beyond the capacity of his imagination.“

Earl Morrison, the witness, was serving as a private, first class in the marine corps in Vietnam in the summer of 1969.

He and two buddies were sitting on top of a bunker near Da Nang on a warm summer evening.

“All of a sudden—I don’t know why—we all three looked out there in the sky and we saw this figure coming toward us. It had a kind of glow and we couldn’t make out what it was at first. It started coming toward us, real slowly. All of a sudden we saw what looked like wings, like a bat’s, only it was gigantic compared to what a regular bat would be. After it got close enough so we could see what it was, it looked like a woman. A naked woman. She was black. Her skin was black, her body was black, the wings were black, everything was black. But it glowed. It glowed in the night—kind of a greenish cast to it.

“There was a glow on her and around her. Everything glowed. Looked like she glowed and threw off a radiance. We saw her arms toward the wings and they looked like regular molded arms, each with a hand, and, fingers and everything, but they had skin from the wings going over them. And when she flapped her wings, there was no noise at first. It looked like her arms didn’t have any bones in them, because they were limber just like a bat.

“She started going over us, and we still didn’t hear anything. She was right above us, and when she got over the top of our heads she was maybe six or seven feet up.

“We couldn’t do anything. We didn’t know what to do. We just froze. We just watched what was going over because we couldn’t believe our eyes. … So we watched her go straight over the top of us, and still she didn’t make any noise flapping her wings. She blotted out the moon once—that’s how close she was to us … As we watched her—she got about ten feet or so away from us—we started hearing her wings flap. And it sounded, you know, like regular wings flapping. And she just started flying off and we watched her for quite a while. The total time when we first saw her and could almost define her until we lost sight of her and were unable to define her was between three or four minutes.”

Aer Lingus Passenger Runs Amok and Bites Another Passenger

A bizarre incident occured when a 24-year-old man reportedly became agitated in the middle of the two-hour Aer Lingus flight to Dublin and bit another passenger. He was restrained immediately and then fell unconscious and later died on the plane. It remains unclear when the man died but he is thought to have received attention from a medic before being declared dead on the ground at Cork airport. A post-mortem examination is to be carried out.

According to the Irish Mirror, the man was acting violent on an Aer Lingus flight from Lisbon, Portugal to Dublin, Ireland and tried to bite at least one fellow passenger. A pilot told controllers the man had "injured one or two passengers."

A technology worker who was returning to Ireland after a weekend away in Lisbon told Mailonline that he had been sitting next to the man for much of the flight and he had seemed normal at first.

He explained: He seemed OK. I had just been playing a game on my phone and listening to music but everything seemed fine.

'He then began shaking and shivering but I just thought it might have been cramp or something.

The captain of the flight declared a medical emergency and diverted the plane to Cork Airport, where it landed at around (5:40p.m.). The Mirror says all 168 passengers and crew members were taken off the flight. At least one passenger was taken to a local hospital and treated for injuries.

Aer Lingus has declined to comment on the incident other than to confirm the flight landed due to a medical emergency.

Mysterious Ghost Cities Floating Over China

Recently, a mysterious city appeared to float over the city of Foshan in the Guangdong province of China which was recorded on video and reported on the local news. At first thousands reportedly saw the ghostly alien city floating, few days later people in the province of Jiangxi, China, also reported seeing a similar cloud city. Apparently, this is not the first time a floating ghost city was seen by Chinese residents. In 2011 a ghost city was seen by many Huanshan City residents who were able to take numerous clear pictures because the mysterious vision occurred well before nightfall. The images clearly showed buildings, structures and trees. Many believed this was a window to a parallel universe, but Weather experts have explained the phenomena as natural mirage, an optical illusion called Fata Morgana.

Fata Morgana can be seen on land or sea and involves the optical distortion and inversion of distant objects such as boats, which can appears as skyscrapers because the images become stacked, when rays of light bend as they pass through air of different temperatures such as in a heat haze.
Ghost City floating over Jiangxi, China

However, despite the simple explanation, the latest sightings have got conspiracy theorists excited.

YouTube channel Paranormal Crucible said in a video report: 'The footage captured by a local resident appears to show a huge city floating in the clouds

'The apparition, which was witnessed by hundreds of shocked residents, only lasted a few minutes before completely disappearing.'

The channel speculated it could be 'the result of a project blue beam test.'

Project Blue Beam is a conspiracy theory which claims Nasa will someday simulate an alien invasion of Earth or second coming of Christ through holograms.

Serge Monast, a conspiracist from Quebecois, first predicted in the 1980s it would happen by 1983, 1996 and then 2000.

The Stone Circle of Burnt Hill

Burnt Hill is located in Heath, Massachusetts and is approximately 1,850 feet high. No one knows for certain where the stones on top of Burnt Hill came from. There are 21 of them, some weighing as much as 500 pounds, all jammed into the northern side of the mound’s bedrock. Researchers first hypothesized that the rocks were erected by a 19th-century farmer as property markers, but it appears that they are many hundreds of years older. The hill may have been used as an early observatory, as the stones appear to point to the surrounding mountains in a manner that could conceivably align with sunrise, sunset, and other planetary motions. They may have been mounted by Native American tribes, but even that remains uncertain.

Burnt Hill Stone Circle

These stones do not form a circle, but are more of a strung-out line with one small cluster of three tall stones. This cluster is formed of three standing stones in a rough triangle, with about six to seven feet between them. Recumbent within this space is a large roughly rectangular tapering slab, about a foot thick, three feet wide, and about six feet long. There are some jumbled stones around them.

There are many American Indian Stories telling of fierce yellow haired warriors who came from the North and built circles of stones and worshipped their gods there. Also there is a local legend in Heath, Massachusetts that H. P. Lovecraft summered there, visited the standing stones atop the local mountain, known as Burnt Hill, and used them as his model.

Blå Jungfrun The Witchcraft Island

In the spring of 2014, a team of archaeologists started their fieldwork on Blå Jungfrun (blue virgin or blue maiden), an island off the east coast of Sweden. The results are astonishing and reveal extensive human activities on the island in the Mesolithic Stone Age. According to a centuries-old legend, witches gather every Easter on the island to worship the devil himself. Curses have also been associated with the island. For instance, those who remove a rock from the site are said to endure a lifetime of bad luck.

Blå Jungfrun is situated in the Kalmar Strait, between the mainland province of Småland and the island province of Öland. The island plays an important role in Swedish folklore, where it is viewed as an evil and magical place. The name Blå Jungfrun was originally used by sailors to avoid provoking the evil spirits who dwelt on the island. According to a widespread belief, by Olaus Magnus in 1555, witches meet there each Maundy Thursday.

Evidence that it has long been associated with satanic rituals has recently been confirmed when archaeologists discovered "distinct ritual features" in two caves.

One cave contains a man-made hollow fireplace which measures just 2.3ft. Ludvig Papmehl-Dufay, an archaeologist with Kalmar County Museum, said, "We believe the hollow is man-made and that the fireplace has been used in connection to hammering out the hollow, probably [on] several occasions.

"The entrance to the cave is very narrow, and you have to squeeze your way in. [However] once you're inside, only half of the cave is covered and you can actually stand above the cave and look down into it, almost like a theatre or a stage below."

Another cave contained tools such as a hammerstone, which was found close to an area that was designated to grind up materials. "[It] could have been used to place something in, perhaps as part of some form of offering, like an altar," Papmehl-Dufay continued.

People who travelled to the island may have practiced various rituals inside the two caves, archaeologists say.

In between the two caves, the archaeologists discovered a small rock shelter, just 20 by 26 feet (6 by 8 meters), that contained stone tools and seal remains. Radiocarbon dating indicates people consumed the seals around 9,000 years ago.

Carlton House Skeleton

The Carlton House was a cheap hotel which located on the corner of Franklin and William Streets in New York City, notorious for the number of suicides that occured there; at least 20 since 1868. In the fall of 1884, the Board of Health received several complaints about the unclean condition of the cellar and then ordered the owner of the property to remove the heaps of dirt and ashes that had accumulated there. After about a week of hoisting barrels of rubbish up to the street, one of the workmen found what he thought was a slender piece of wood. However, it was not a piece of wood, but the leg of a woman, dried and shriveled. The workmen removed about six inches of dirt, uncovering the skeleton of a young woman who had been dead for more than a year.

The corpse was wearing a black cloth sacque, with lace trimmings on the sleeves, a brown cloth dress and muslin underskirt. On her legs were blue and white striped stockings, partially worn away or eaten by mice. There were no definitive signs of violence on the corpse. How she died and what she was doing in the sub-cellar was a mystery.

After the discovery of the skeleton, several people identified the body as a missing relative or friend, but only one identification was taken seriously. Charles Sprenger examined the body and the clothing and was positively convinced that the woman was his sister Johanna Schmidt. Her marriage had been an unhappy one; she and her husband, Frederick, quarreled violently over Johanna’s familiarity with Ludwig Hart, a barber who boarded with the Schmidts. Johanna left her husband on June 27, 1883, Hart disappeared then as well. No one in the family had heard from her since.

However, few months later, the identity of the body was once more in question. Charles Sprenger had been certain the body was that of his sister Johanna, but his younger sister, Emma, was just as sure that it was not. On December 7, it was reported that Charles Sprenger received a telegram from Johanna saying that she was alive and well. For the sake of her privacy, he would not reveal her location, but he was now convinced that the body was not Johanna’s. The police, however, were not convinced, and believing that Sprenger family was lying to protect their reputation, continued under the assumption that the victim was Johanna Schmidt.

The “Carlton House Skeleton” was buried in an unmarked grave in New York’s potter’s field; the circumstances around her death remain a dark mystery.

Megalithic Structure of Puma Punku

Puma Punku is a megalithic structure atop a 13,000 ft plateau with massive blocks fitting together without mortar. The site location is part of the Tiwanaku Site near Tiwanaku, Bolivia. The age is estimated conservatively at about 2000 years old, but many people believe they are much older, with some guesses as early as 14,000 years old. The heaviest of these stones is 450 tons. At Puma Punku you will find incredible stones with perfect right angles, almost smooth as glass, this makes Puma Punku unique.

Puma Punku was purposely integrated with Illimani mountain, a sacred peak that the Tiwanaku (Tiahuanaco) possibly believed to be home to the spirits of their dead. This area was believed to have existed between heaven and Earth. The spiritual significance and the sense of wonder would have been amplified into a "mind-altering and life-changing experience" through the use of hallucinogenic plants.

It is 167.36 metres (549.1 feet) wide along its north-south axis and 116.7 metres (383 feet) long along its east-west axis. On the northeast and southeast corners of the Puma Punku it has 20-metre (66-foot) wide projections that extend 27.6 metres (91 feet) north and south from the rectangular mound. The eastern edge of the Puma Punku is occupied by what is called the "Plataforma Lítica". The Plataforma Lítica consists of a stone terrace that is 6.75 by 38.72 metres (22.1 by 127.0 feet) in dimension. This terrace is paved with multiple, enormous stone blocks. It contains the largest stone slab found in both the Puma Punku and Tiwanaku Site, measuring 7.81 metres (25.6 feet) long, 5.17 metres (17.0 feet) wide and averages 1.07 m (3 ft 6 in) thick. Based upon the specific gravity of the red sandstone from which it was carved, this stone slab has been estimated to weigh 131 metric tons.

What makes this even more amazing is that many of these blocks were cut from diorite, an insanely hard rock that was used in ancient times to cut other rocks. The grooves in the diorite are machine-made, some as small as a centimeter deep with only 1 mm variation.

Medieval "Vampire" Skull

Among the many medieval plague victims recently unearthed near Venice, Italy, one reportedly had never-before-seen evidence of an unusual affliction: being "undead." The partial body and skull of the woman showed her jaw forced open by a brick —an exorcism technique used on suspected vampires. Suspecting that she might be a vampire, a common folk belief at the time, gravediggers shoved a rock into her skull to prevent her from chewing through her shroud and infecting others with the plague, said anthropologist Matteo Borrini of the University of Florence. It's the first time that archaeological remains have been interpreted as belonging to a suspected vampire.

In the absence of medical science, vampires were just one of many possible contemporary explanations for the spread of the Venetian plague in 1576, which ran rampant through the city and ultimately killed up to 50,000 people, some officials estimate. Since tombs were often reopened during plagues so other victims could be added, Italian gravediggers saw these decomposing bodies with partially "eaten" shrouds, Borrini said.

Vampires were thought by some to be causes of plagues, so the superstition took root that shroud-chewing was the "magical way" that vampires spread pestilence, he said. Inserting objects—such as bricks and stones—into the mouths of alleged vampires was thought to halt the disease.

In the 16th and 17th centuries, little was known about what happens to the body after death. They knew about immediate postmortem changes, such as cooling of the body (algor mortis) and temporary stiffening of the muscles (rigor mortis), but these changes don't really alter the appearance of the deceased. The ensuing decay and decay and putrefaction--which reduce a corpse to a skeleton--were poorly understood because they happen in the grave. When graves were reopened, it was usually after years, when the body had completely turned into a skeleton. So they associated death with a cold and stiff corpse or blanched skeleton, and allegorical paintings from the time confirm this.
